Description

Azure Cosmos DB is renowned for its active-active resiliency, allowing write operations to any region by trading off consistency for 99.999% availability. We are pleased to announce that we have now expanded active-active support to strong consistency through per partition automatic failover. This enables you to achieve near zero downtime and zero data loss with strong consistency guarantees in an entirely automatic manner. This new capability enhances the continuity and resilience of your applications by automatically responding to service disruptions without any manual intervention.

Per Partition Automatic Failover (PPAF) helps ensure that your service remains available by intelligently routing requests to healthy partitions during localized or regional outages, helping you maintain a seamless experience for your services. By enabling partition-aware write region election, it minimizes the scope of impact and improves recovery speed, all while adhering to your configured region priorities.

With PPAF, you benefit from stronger, built-in resiliency, reduced downtime, and less operational overhead—helping to ensure that your applications remain consistently available and reliable.
