Prompt Flow will be retired from Microsoft Foundry and Azure Machine
Learning on April 20, 2027 and replaced by a single, modern orchestration
platform: Microsoft
Agent Framework. This change unlocks powerful new capabilities,
including a unified, future-proof foundation for building intelligent
agents and workflows with support for advanced agent architectures.
Key dates:
- April 3, 2026: General Availability (GA) of
Microsoft Agent Framework.
- April 20, 2026: Public announcement of Prompt
Flow deprecation.
- April 20, 2027: Full
retirement of Prompt Flow from Azure ML, Microsoft Foundry, and
VS Code.
What you need to do:
For most
orchestration scenarios, Microsoft Agent Framework is the recommended
migration path, with Microsoft Foundry options to review if you also depend on
evaluation or tracing. We recommend a phased migration approach: rebuild key
workloads, validate them thoroughly, and move deployments to
supported alternatives ahead of retirement.
Why migrate early?
You’ll gain access to richer tooling, improved
reliability, and the latest Foundry innovations.
