The MSSQL extension for Visual Studio Code now integrates GitHub Copilot, bringing AI-powered SQL assistance directly into your development workflow. Together, they help you reduce repetitive tasks, accelerate development, and design database schemas and applications faster and more intelligently. With just a few clicks in Visual Studio Code, you can generate T-SQL and object-relational mapping (ORM) code, explore schemas, and build, analyze, and optimize queries—even if you’re new to SQL.
This general availability release brings a more complete GitHub Copilot experience, including Ask mode, Agent mode, and slash commands. You can use natural language and interact in multiple ways with your SQL Server, Azure SQL, or SQL database in Microsoft Fabric. You also get more detailed connection information, clearer error messages, better database context awareness, and improved guidance—enhancements that make GitHub Copilot easier and more natural to use as part of your daily workflow.
Whether you’re building modern web apps, cloud-native solutions, or AI-driven experiences, GitHub Copilot helps you understand the business logic within your database, follow best practices for security and performance, and even generate mock data for rapid testing.
