Description

We are introducing a new capability that allows you to host remote Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers built with the MCP SDKs on Functions. Some key benefits of hosting on the Functions platform include:

  • Built-in server authentication
  • Automatic and bursty scaling
  • Pay-per-use
Additionally, if you’ve already built your MCP server, you don’t need to make any code changes to host on Azure Functions.

Currently in public preview, the new capability supports remote hosting of servers built with the Python, TypeScript, C#, and Java MCP SDKs on the Flex Consumption plan. Servers must be stateless and use the streamable-http transport.
