Ubuntu 24.04 is now generally available on AKS in Kubernetes
version 1.32 and above. Containerd 2.0 is enabled by default. Ubuntu 24.04 is
default with `Ubuntu` OS Sku in kubernetes version 1.35 and above.
There are two ways that Ubuntu 24.04 can be enabled.
In Kubernetes version 1.32 and above, you can use the
‘Ubuntu2404’ OS Sku. This OS Sku can help you migrate existing clusters before
you reach the minimum kubernetes version for Ubuntu 24.04 as default on AKS.
In Kubernetes version 1.35 and above, you can use ‘Ubuntu’
OS Sku which defaults to Ubuntu 24.04. If you are already using `Ubuntu` OS Sku
and upgrade to kubernetes version 1.35 or above, you’ll automatically migrate
to Ubuntu 24.04.
While migrating to Ubuntu 24.04, you can rollback to Ubuntu
22.04 by using the new OS SKU “Ubuntu2204” in Kubernetes versions 1.25 to 1.36.
This functionality allows for more flexibility in testing and upgrading your OS
versions without requiring a Kubernetes version upgrade.
