Developers
building Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers often rely on plain text
responses even when user interactions required richer experiences, such as
visual data exploration, complex configuration, real-time status monitoring, or
multi-step workflows, which leads to excessive back-and-forth and limited
usability.
Azure Functions now supports building and hosting MCP Apps using
the Azure Functions MCP Extension. MCP Apps enable servers to return
interactive user interfaces that render directly within chat experiences,
including forms, dashboards, and rich media viewers. This capability is
available for Python, TypeScript, .NET, and Java, allowing developers to build
MCP Apps using familiar languages.
With MCP Apps on Azure Functions, developers can now deliver richer and
interactive experiences directly in conversations, reducing conversational
friction, streamlining complex workflows, and making it easier for users to
explore data and monitor live information without leaving the chat.
