Azure AI Search and Foundry IQ Knowledge Sources add incremental SharePoint permissions sync in public preview, keeping document-level, site, and library access control lists current as SharePoint permissions change. Enterprises store business-critical content in SharePoint and expect AI-powered search, RAG, and agent experiences to enforce the same access rules.
Today, carrying SharePoint permissions forward into indexing workflows is partial, so downstream AI experiences can drift from current SharePoint state. With incremental sync, permission updates apply on every indexer run, removing the need for full re-indexing when ACLs change. Supported scopes cover document-level ACLs, site (ASPX) ACLs, and list and library ACLs. SharePoint policy evaluation stays out of scope. Security and compliance teams gain a more reliable foundation for enterprise agents and RAG apps built on SharePoint content.
