Azure MCP Server 3.0 is now generally available, expanding how AI agents and developer tools interact with Azure through the open Model Context Protocol (MCP).
This release introduces new and expanded capabilities:
- Infrastructure as code: Azure Terraform tools for provider documentation, Azure Verified Modules, resource export, and policy validation.
- Protection and recovery: Azure Backup and Azure Resilience Management tools for backup protection, recovery plans, readiness checks, and drills.
- Cost optimization: Expanded Azure Advisor capabilities and optimization tools for reviewing recommendations, comparing resource options, and understanding utilization.
- More predictable integrations: Clearer tool contracts, stricter input and endpoint validation, and opt-in structured output.
Version 3.0 also introduces safer defaults when creating Storage accounts, Event Hubs namespaces, NFS file shares, and Recovery Services vaults.
