Coming soon for Microsoft Purview | Endpoint Data Loss Protection (DLP): A new feature to apply blanket protection to unscannable file types. After you turn on this policy, you will apply this policy to files that cannot be scanned.

Public Preview: We will begin rolling out mid-March 2025 and expect to complete by mid-March 2025.

General Availability (Worldwide): We will begin rolling out late March 2025 and expect to complete by late March 2025.

How this will affect your organization:

With this new capability, Microsoft Purview DLP is now providing blanket protection for unscannable files. Learn more: Apply controls to all unsupported files

In Microsoft Purview, you can access this feature in Policy settings > Create policy > Create rule > Apply restrictions to only unsupported file extensions:

This feature is available by default for admins to configure.

What you need to do to prepare:

This rollout will happen automatically by the specified dates with no admin action required before the rollout. Review your current configuration to determine the impact for your organization. You may want to notify your users about this change and update any relevant documentation.
