Microsoft Teams will retire the "Code snippets" feature for chats and channels between May 30, 2025, and June 16, 2025. Users should transition to "code blocks," which are faster and more efficient. Existing code snippets will remain accessible, and no admin action is required.
We will retire the code snippets feature for chats and channels from Microsoft Teams starting May 30, 2025 and ending June 16, 2025. We made this decision to streamline our development efforts and enhance the overall user experience by focusing on code blocks, which are faster and more efficient, allowing users (mainly developers) to create, edit, and share code directly in the compose box without needing a title. Code blocks offer almost all the features of code snippets, except for line numbers. We will be adding line numbers to code blocks in the coming months. Also, code blocks will soon be viewable on mobile devices, ensuring that users can access and collaborate on code from anywhere.
This message applies to Teams for Windows desktop. Teams for Mac desktop, and Teams for the web.

Users will no longer be able to create code snippets after the feature retires, but all previously sent code snippets will remain accessible in Teams. Users will not be able to create new code snippets after May 30, 2025.
This change will happen automatically by the specified date. No admin action is required. Please notify your users about this change, update relevant documentation as appropriate, and share the code blocks alternative.
