More information

Updated August 20, 2025: We have updated the timeline. Thank you for your patience.

Introduction

We’re enhancing the Add Shortcut to OneDrive experience to make it more intuitive and consistent across Microsoft 365. This update improves discoverability and supports a more streamlined file access workflow in OneDrive and SharePoint document libraries.

When will this happen

General Availability (Worldwide): We will begin rolling out in late August 2025 (previously late July) and expect to complete by mid-September 2025 (previously mid-August).

How this will affect your organization

Users will see the “Add Shortcut to OneDrive” command appear before the “Sync” command in the command bar. This change is designed to encourage use of the shortcut feature while maintaining access to Sync. The command will also adopt a consistent name and icon across Microsoft 365 apps.
