Updated December 1, 2025: We have updated the timeline. Thank you for your patience.

Introduction:

We’re updating the AI Disclaimer experience in Microsoft Copilot Chatbased on customer feedback. Some users found the disclaimer too distracting, while others felt it was too subtle. To address this, we’re introducing an admin controlscontrol that allowallows organizations to customize how the disclaimer appears, improving user awareness and flexibility.

When this will happen: 

Rollout will begin in early December 2025 (previously late November 2025November) and complete by:

  • Worldwide & GCC: Early mid-December 2025 (previously early December)
  • GCC High & DoD: Mid-mid-January 2026 (previously mid-December 20252025)

How this affects your organization:

Who is affected:

  • All users of Microsoft Copilot Chat across all endpoints.

      on desktop and web experiences.

    What will happen:

    • The AI Disclaimer belowdisclaimer will remain visible in the Input Box will be OFF by default.user experience.
    • Admins will havegain the ability to heighten this message and to provide a new togglelink to enable the disclaimer.their own documentation:
      • If enabled:
        • The disclaimer will display bolded text for increased visibility.
        • Admins can configure a custom URL or use the default link pointing to Microsofttheir AI policy documentation.
        • Both Starter and Premium users can see the Input Box and the AI Disclaimer (if enabled), so a Copilot license is not explicitly required for visibility.

    • Review the new AI Disclaimer togglesetting in the Admin Portal once available.
    • Decide whether you want to enable the disclaimerconfigure this setting for your organization.

    • Communicate this change to your helpdesk staff and Copilot users.
    • Update internal documentation if you reference the disclaimer experience.
