Introduction

We’re introducingThe Interpreter agent is now available in Microsoft Teams Rooms on Windows for devices with a new pay-as-you-go (PAYG) experience in the Microsoft 365 Admin Center (MAC)Teams Rooms Pro license. This update providesfeature enables real-time interpretation in up to nine languages, allowing participants to speak and listen in their preferred language. It also offers an option to simulate a centralized way to manage metered services such as participant’s personal voice for a more inclusive experience. No additional Copilot license is required.

    What will happen:

      • Admins can create and manage billing policies directly in MAC.
      • Services can be linkedGo to billing policies, with support for departmental billing. Note: departmental billing for Backup customers will become available in Q1 2026.
      • Budgets can be set, and notifications triggered when thresholds are met.
      • Usage and spending can be viewed at the billing policy level.
      • Subscriptions and resource groups can be created in MAC without navigating to Azure.
      • PAYG setup for other services remains under Org SettingsMore > PAYG Turn on Interpreteruntil transitioned., then select the language and voice option.
    • Additional PAYG-enabled services will be added to theSupported languages: Chinese (Mandarin), English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish.
    • Voice representation options: Billing nodeSimulated my voice over time. Until then, the PAYG setup for other products (besides(default) or Backup) will continue to remain under Org Settings > PAYGAutomated voice.
    • Privacy: Voice samples or biometric data are never stored; original audio is analyzed in real time and not retained.
    • Interpretation is simultaneous and may introduce a short delay; accuracy and latency improvements are ongoing.
    • Tenant settings:
      • Interpreter is enabled by default. Admins can control whether the organization can use Interpreter and set the default voice option.
      • No device-level setting in the Pro Management Portal (PMP).
    • Licensing: 20 hours of interpretation included per room account per month with a Teams Rooms Pro license. Access beyond included hours is subject to available capacity.

    • Review tenant settings:
      • Confirm Interpreter is required.

        Admins may decide to:

        • ReviewSet the preferred default voice option in your tenant.
      • Communicate this change to helpdesk and support teams.
      • Update internal documentation to reflect the new PAYG page under Billing in MAC.functionality.
      • Monitor announcements for migration timelines for existing Backup customers.
      • Refer to Microsoft documentation for guidance on billing policies and budget notifications.
