What and Why:

We are introducing the ability to pop out Copilot Chat into a separate floating window in Outlook for Mac and iPad. This enhancement gives users greater flexibility when working with Copilot Chat alongside Outlook, making it easier to switch contexts, manage email, and access Outlook controls while keeping Copilot Chat visible.

Rollout Schedule:

  • General Availability (Worldwide): Rollout begins in late August 2026 (previously mid-August) and is expected to complete by mid-September 2026.

Who is affected:

  • Users with access to Copilot Chat in Outlook for Mac and Outlook for iPad.

Platforms:

  • Outlook for Mac, Outlook for iPad.

After this rollout:

  • Users can select the Pop out button in Copilot Chat to open the chat in a separate window that floats over the main Outlook window.
  • On Mac, users can drag and resize the Copilot Chat window within the boundaries of the Outlook application window.
  • On iPad, users can reposition Copilot Chat horizontally and resize it vertically.
  • A Return button allows users to move Copilot Chat back into the main Outlook window.
  • A Close button allows users to close the Copilot Chat window.
  • This feature is enabled by default for eligible users.
