More information

Updated September 2, 2026: We have updated the content and timeline. Thank you for your patience.

What and why:

Microsoft Teams Rooms on Windows will introduce native Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) camera controls directly from the in-room console for compatible cameras. This enhancement enables room users to manually pan, tilt, and zoom supported cameras during meetings without requiring a separate remote control or vendor-specific application.

This feature works with cameras that support pan, tilt, and zoom, whether the camera moves a physical lens or adjusts the image digitally. Controls are available when Teams Rooms can confirm the camera isn't independently framing the room. This is an additive feature and does not change or remove existing camera functionality.

Rollout Schedule:

  • Public Preview (Worldwide): Rollout begins in early September 2026 and is expected to complete by mid-October 2026.
  • General Availability (Worldwide): Rollout begins in late September 2026 (previously mid-September) and is expected to complete by mid-October 2026.
  • General Availability (GCC): Rollout begins in mid-October 2026 (previously mid-September) and is expected to complete by early November 2026 (previously mid-October).

What will happen

  • Users will be able to manually control camera pan, tilt, and zoom functions directly from the Teams Rooms console during meetings.
  • The feature provides local camera framing adjustments without requiring a physical remote control or camera vendor application.
  • Support includes cameras with mechanical, optical, or digital PTZ. Teams Rooms shows the controls when it can confirm the camera isn't independently framing the room.
  • The feature will be enabled automatically on eligible Teams Rooms on Windows devices with compatible PTZ cameras.

  • Inform room users that PTZ camera controls will be available directly from the room console.
  • Update internal support documentation and room usage guidance, if applicable, to reflect the new camera control experience.
  • Prepare help desk and support teams for potential user questions regarding the new controls.
