Introduction

TheWe’re introducing a new Interpreter agentpay-as-you-go (PAYG) experience is now available in the Microsoft Teams Rooms on Windows for devices with a Teams Rooms Pro license365 Admin Center (MAC). This feature enables real-time interpretation in upupdate provides a centralized way to nine languages, allowing participants to speak and listen in their preferred language. It also offers an option to simulate a participant’s personal voice for a more inclusive experience. No additional Copilot license is required.

When this will happen:

General Availability:

  • Available to new General Availability (Worldwide):Microsoft 365 Backup and all Copilot customers Rolling out latestarting January 15, 2026 (previously early January), expected completion by late February 2026 (previously late January)December 15, 2025).
  • Migration path for existing Backup customers will be announced later.

How this will affectaffects your organization:

Who is affected: Organizations using Teams Rooms on Windows with Teams Rooms Pro licensing.Admins in Worldwide managing Microsoft 365 Backup and Copilot PAYG services.

What will happen:

  • UsersA new PAYG page will appear under the Billing node in MAC.
  • Admins can turn oncreate and manage billing policies directly in MAC.
  • Services can be linked to billing policies, with support for departmental billing. Note: departmental billing for InterpreterBackup customers during a meeting:
      will become available in Q1 2026.
    • GoBudgets can be set, and notifications triggered when thresholds are met.
    • Usage and spending can be viewed at the billing policy level.
    • Subscriptions and resource groups can be created in MAC without navigating to Azure.
    • PAYG setup for other services remains under MoreOrg Settings > Turn on InterpreterPAYG , then selectuntil transitioned.
    • Additional PAYG-enabled services will be added to the Billing node over time. Until then, the language and voice option.
  • Supported languages: Chinese (Mandarin), English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish.
  • Voice representation options:PAYG setup for other products (besides Simulated my voiceBackup) will continue to remain under Org Settings (default) or> Automated voicePAYG.
  • Privacy: Voice samples or biometric data are never stored; original audio is analyzed in real time and not retained.
  • Interpretation is simultaneous and may introduce a short delay; accuracy and latency improvements are ongoing.
  • Tenant settings:
    • Interpreter is enabled by default. Admins can control whether the organization can use Interpreter and set the default voice option.
    • No device-level setting in the Pro Management Portal (PMP).
  • Licensing: 20 hours of interpretation included per room account per month with a Teams Rooms Pro license. Access beyond included hours is subject to available capacity.
